Barnett L. Rosset Jr., 1922-2012, producer of Strange Victory 1948. Rosset approached Hurwitz with the basic idea for the film after World War II. Hurwitz left his position at CBS Television in order to direct the film. Because the film was attacked as “Communist propaganda” and failed financially, Rosset vowed to leave movies entirely. He went on to publish Evergreen Review, and make a huge contribution to publishing and to freedom of the press as the owner of Grove Press.
