America Applauds: An Evening for Richard Rodgers
Leo Hurwitz’s last work for television before he was firmly blacklisted for his political beliefs was this amazing live broadcast, produced by the Souvaine Corporation and broadcast on NBC. It is a one hour live broadcast in a period when television studios were only slightly larger than living rooms, shot on three cameras, switched live. This was a production method that Hurwitz had helped to invent. The intimacy of the program was brought about by the fact that television production was so new that it was feeling its way.
