Between 1950 and 1951, with red scare building around him, Hurwitz was hired by the United Nations Film Unit to make documentaries about the work of the newly-formed United Nations. He made 8 films. Finally, visits from the FBI asking questions about him moved the UN Secretariat to terminate his employment.
